Part of my job in the office is what we call a Support Coach. As most of you can imagine, one of the biggest obstacles to actually becoming a missionary is money. How can you just live off donations? How do you get people to donate? It’s daunting to say the least. So we provide Support Coaches… people who have been there, done that, and are still doing it… to help encourage you, provide ideas, and provide accountability along the way. Needless to say… i spend a lot of time talking about money.
On Tuesday, small group was at our house. We were all sharing what God
was doing in our lives and there was this common theme of money. I
shared that I just felt like God has a theme, beyond just us, of
generosity right now. Something is just happening in the spiritual realm
over generosity.
Yesterday was a major support deadline for 7
squads… 3 on the field and 4 getting ready to go. If anyone doesn’t make these deadlines then either they don’t get to go or they have to come home. It’s a really big deal.
Liz is one of those
getting ready to go… and life has just been tough recently. Liz went
on a trip before and her life completely changed… healed, freed,
delivered… well, you know the typical World Race story. She came home and now people just
aren’t quite understanding the new Liz. But she has grace for them so
it’s okay…
Except now she’s raising for a new trip. When she
shared about the realities of Human Trafficking, her church’s response
was “You shouldn’t talk about those things in church.” When she shared
about her life change that was just too weird. She has NO support at
home. That makes support raising difficult.
In about 6 months of working on support raising,
she just got about $1500. Yesterday was her support deadline. And $1500 is a far cry from the $5000 she had to have. We all love her and were very sad
over this. As we were talking about anything that might be out there for
her, phones started ringing.
Thirty minutes later she had
$4338. That’s almost $3000 in 30 minutes.
