hippie. It all began when I was little and I made friends with a girl who was
older than me (automatically cool) who was ultra-hippie. While we were only
friends for a short time, she treated me as if I was as cool as she was, and
even gave me a homemade love bead necklace. Hooked.
hair-dreading love and into an interest in authentic community and being a part
of a movement. While I may be the token hippie-lover here, these are the things
that drew me to The World Race. These are two of the pillars that we base this
ministry culture on: authentic community and the movement of God’s Kingdom.
God introduced me to this lifestyle through a random hippie in my childhood and
then molded this passion toward His plan for me.
the word Unity. God calls His body to walk in Unity and we want to be a people
who strive after unity in our ministry… a unity that is strong because it’s built on
the diversity of the people unified in the direction we are heading. In the
midst of this prayer time, God gave me a picture… and because God loves to
speak in ways we understand… it was all based off hippies!
protest march. They were hanging out in the street with signs about Revolution
and The Movement. They were just a mob and disrupting the flow of traffic. But
then they began to form up. They began to line up in the street, getting ready
to head in the same direction. And then they began to link arms…
one member of that group would reach out to a member of another group… uniting
the two circles of friends behind their common goal. Stray people standing
alone on the side of the road would hurry to the street and link arms with
someone, anyone. No one worried about where in the line they were standing. No
one worried about who it was they would link up with. All those things fell
away behind their common purpose. They had heard the Whisper of a movement, the
call of a Revolution… and they jumped in.
became noticeable. People were no longer annoyed at the traffic jam in the
street… they were getting out of their car to watch… they were interested in
the momentum of the movement. And some of them were even inspired to join…
around… or to reach out to the group next to mine. My job is to let go of petty
differences or my own preferences in order to be a part of the bigger picture.
Because if this generation will really unite behind God’s goals… the nations
will take notice.
