What are you doing tonight? Sitting on your butt being entertained by moving pictures? We are.

We are going to see the screening of a short movie called “The Candy Shop”.

(from CBSatlanta.com)
The Candy Shop” is about the sex trafficking epidemic here in Atlanta and around the world. The film was shot here and premieres tonight at the Fox Theatre. Atlanta native Brandon McCormick is the director of this film and he stopped by to tell us why he made this film.

If you haven’t heard that the US still has slavery, listen up because our inaction only allows this evil practice to grow. Atlanta is one of the hubs of the sex slave industry but there are other hot spots as well including back in my home area – the Fox Valley in WI. Surprised? I was. Just a few years ago I learned that it’s huge in Thailand (where it is big time. Thousands of people from Europe and the States go there for the very reason that sex is cheap). But hearing that it happens in your back yard, and on Craigslist( 1/3 of Craiglist’ revenue comes from underage sex sales)! It takes it to a personal level.
You might think “Wow that’s awful, but I can’t get involved. I’m to busy. Or ____(insert lame excuse here)” Don’t feel helpless Christian. Remember what Jesus said “Your the light of the world” Be it. Stop settling for smiling at the grocery clerk as being “Jesus” to others. Get aware and get involved in some form or fashion. Even if you can’t travel because you have a family or whatever, give $ to those who are. Make it possible for those who want to go and do something!
The World Race is doing a Trafficking route where the team will partner with established ministries in Thailand and other countries and come back to the US to work with organizations here who are trying to stop the trafficking.
Whew. I didn’t mean for this to go on so long but I can’t help but to pour my heart out over this subject. I hate that kids/teens get trapped in this crap.
So tell people theres a problem, and figure out how you can be part of the solution.

  1. This past summer, I learned alot about the topic of human trafficking. My heart aches over it. I would encourage others to learn more about this topic. It is real and thriving. Recently I met a missionary who saw it happen before her eyes. We must not ignore this topic. Thanks for bringing it up.

the beautiful val has a huge heart for this kind of thing and we’re waiting on God to see plans for next year and trusting that somewhere in the future it will include serious involvement in anti-trafficking…
